The Social Security Administration (SSA) has created the Social Security Number Verification System (SSNVS), an online system that offers employers free Social Security verification for new employees. For employers, the service is free. The service is free, but employers must be registered with a valid ID, which is issued by the Social Security Administration. To register, visit http://www.ssa.gov/bso/bsowelcome.htm. Employers can get instant, online results for up to 10 employees at a time.
Using E-Verify for All Hiring
E-Verify (formerly known as Basic Pilot) is a free online-based tool that lets employers conduct employment verification checks of new employees with the Social Security Administration and all DHS databases.
Essentially, Once a job applicant presents their documents showing both their identity and employment eligibility, an employer has 3 days from the official hiring date to perform an E-Verify check. "No-match" responses alert lenders to potential identity theft, the use of fake numbers, or the use of a number borrowed from a family member to obtain a loan. It is not free.
